Stratasys

Status: Working (offline USB printing only)

Software: GrabCad Print

About this machine

The F170 features a maximum build area of 10 x 10 x 10 inches (254 x 254 x 254 mm) and a material bay that holds one print material and one support spool.

The Stratasys F370 offers a larger maximum build area of 14 x 10 x 14 inches (356 x 254 x 356 mm) and is equipped with two model material bays and two support material bays, enabling automatic changeover if material runs out.

Software & Slicing

To access GrabCad Print, please use the podium computer with permission from a Pilot Space Assistant.

Print File Preparation

Import your STL or OBJ file into GrabCad print.

Select your model on the buildplate, and choose settings. We strongly encourage people to choose a non-default infill percentage to save material. GrabCad Print chooses near-100% infill by default, which, in most cases, is not required for structural strength.

Printing Via USB

In GrabCad print, instead of pressing "print":

  • Prepare your file with intended settings

    • Important: make sure you select the machine model you'll be printing on (either F170 or F370)

  • Insert a flash drive into the computer

  • Click file->Export as CMB and save the file on the flash drive.

  • Usually if prompted, you'll want to include the purge tower.

  • Wait for it to finish exporting - there will be a progress bar at the top of the screen.

  • Eject & unplug the USB, and plug it into the Stratasys.

  • Open the "queue" menu (second down on the left) and press the "+" button on the upper right.

  • Select "from USB" and add your file to the queue. Make sure that your file is the first or only file in the queue, otherwise other things will print first!

Post-processing

Either remove supports by hand or, if using QSR support material, use the Stratasys Support Cleaning Apparatusto dissolve supports.
